Louis Xvi Dining Chairs
I have finally found the dining chairs that I've been looking for!
Have you ever walked into an antique store and spied something that stopped you in your tracks?
Well, that's exactly what happened to me a few days ago!
As I entered the store, this set of eight Louis XVI French style dining chairs instantly drew my attention.
The chairs were displayed at the front of the store, and I fell in love immediately.
Six of the chairs were seated around a large dining table, and the two arm chairs were displayed in a separate vignette.
As soon as I saw them, I knew they were the ones.
You see, I've been searching for a new dining table and chairs since I sold my old ones when we moved.
I had already found a gorgeous antique French table a couple of months ago, and I've been searching for a fabulous set of French chairs since then.
This set of Louis XVI French style chairs were made by the Karges Furniture Company.
In 1886, Albert F. Karges, a first generation immigrant, invested $600 to begin making moderately priced, American-style furniture out of local hardwoods in Evansville, Indiana. Karges was one of more than forty furniture companies in the area at this time.
After WWI, Albert's son, Edwin Karges Sr., an artist at heart, joined the company. After traveling Europe, Mr. "K" convinced his father to try some of the unique and traditional designs of European furniture. Because of Edwin Sr.'s designs, Karges Furniture pulled away from the pack with elaborate, carved pieces and was set on the path to becoming the company it is today.
The detail to the carvings in the chairs is absolutely gorgeous and they have a beautiful creamy painted finish.
The caning in all eight chairs is perfect and so is the gorgeous crewel embroidery set against a duck egg blue background.
Do you see why I fell in love with them?
I've always had a love for well done painted furniture, but I also love mixing some painted with natural and stained pieces.
Even though the chairs have a cream painted finish, the stained caning ties in beautifully with the stained wood in the French table.
Patience in waiting for just the right chairs has definitely paid off!
I think Miss RubyLou is a lover of French chairs just like her mama….since bringing the chairs home, she has had to sit in each and every one!
Cheers, Cindy
